Having made his first appearances on the European Tour in 2016 and 2017, Clemens won his Tour Card at the first attempt in January 2018 and reached his first ProTour final in May 2018, losing 6-5 to Gary Anderson.

After reaching the last 16 of the Players Championship Finals, Clemens made his World Championship debut at the 2018/2019 event.

Clemens continued his strong start to his PDC career by reaching his two further Players Championship event finals in 2019, a year which also saw him come runner-up at the German Darts Masters.

In December 2020, he became the first German player to reach the round of Last 16 in the PDC World Darts Championship, after beating reigning champion Peter Wright 4–3.

Clemens reached the semi-final of the 2023 PDC World Darts Championship, becoming the first German player to reach that stage of the competition before suffering a 6–2 defeat to Michael Smith having already defeated Gerwyn Price in the previous round.
